County's anti-meth initiative receives $280,000 federal grant
Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Lincoln County has just received confirmation that it will be receiving a $280,000 grant to help support and expand its Lincoln County Meth Initiative.

The federal grant was secured with the assistance of Congresswoman Darlene Hooley and United States Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith.

The Lincoln County Meth Initiative was started in 2000 by Assistant County Counsel Rob Bovett. Bovett, who wrote this latest grant, has now secured grants for the Initiative totaling nearly $1.5 million.

Among other things, the latest grant will fund the Drug Awareness Project (DAP) and Recovery Awareness Project (RAP) in a number of Lincoln County Schools in the 2008-2009 school year. The projects will feature the production of broadcast-quality television commercials written, produced, and directed by students. This will be the latest in an on-going series of projects that are part of the Lincoln County Youth Film Program, founded and coordinated by Bovett and the Lincoln County School District's Peter Vince and Ben Hensley.

The latest grant will also provide replacement equipment, training, and support staff for the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT), as well as essential services for drug endangered children, the most tragic victims of the meth epidemic. Services include counseling, medical exams, and forensic interviews at the Lincoln County Children's Advocacy Center, as well as replacement clothing and personal effects
